Shai started playing the cello at the age of 4, studied at the Thelma Yellin High School in the classical music, and at the Tel Aviv University Music Academy. Throughout his adult life, he has been writing, composing, playing and arranging music. He took part in various projects including "Nagwa" – an instrumental ensemble he founded together with Shlomo Oz and Omer Gonen Aelah, the Givol Choir, in which he participated and composed and adapted several pieces, and Ronaldo Freitas Carrieca – a Brazilian jazz composer, whom he accompanied with cello on international recording and touring.
Shai participated in many projects in Israel and abroad and even wrote sketches for television programs.
In February 2007, at the end of a music festival in Brazil, Shai traveled with friends to a magical island he called "paradise". A few hours after he arrived, a freaked accident occurred. A pillar supporting the hammock, on which he lay, collapsed and killed him at the age of 28.
Shai left behind a huge amount of songs, stories and sketches that each year continue to be revealed, and some receive new life, thanks to his talented friends as well as artists who did not know him, but were inspired by his work. Shai continues to influence and illuminate our path, he is a source of inspiration and love for sounds and words.
